Zucker Productions has acquired the rights to create a motion picture based on Richard Starkings’ Elephantmen comic book, which is published by Image Comics.  Starkings is writing the treatment for the movie adaptation of his Eisner Award-winning series.

Starting in 2002 Starkings self-published Elephantmen under his Active Images’ imprint before moving to book to Image in 2006.  Set in a near future Los Angeles where human/animal hybrids created to fight in a war between Africa and China interact with ordinary humans in a saga that touches on a number of contemporary issues such as racism, global warming, and stem cell research.

Jerry Zucker, who directed Ghost and co-directed Airplane! and The Naked Gun, is likely to helm the adaptation of Elephantmen.
