Over the past couple of weeks Marvel Studios and Paramount have released numerous images from Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger including the recently unveiled shot of Cap and Bucky (see “First Look at Big Screen Bucky”), but none of them have the evocative power of the first real poster from the film.

 

The simple, but powerful image features Chris Evans as Cap against a mud-spattered background with the word “Avenge” written across his chest. The simple motto ties in with the Avengers movie to come and its serious purpose is reflected in the respectful downward gaze of star-spangled hero who appears poised to turn contemplation into purposeful and dramatic action.
