Dynamite Entertainment has released some preview art from Total Recall #1, the comic book series that debuts in May. Written by Vincent S. Moore, the narrative of Dynamite’s Total Recall comic book series begins at the end of the 1990 Carolco film that was based on a short story by Phillip K. Dick and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid, a freedom fighter who accidentally discovers a memory implant that masks his real identity.

The film ends with the death of Cohaagen, the corrupt head of the mining conglomerate that essentially ran Mars, and the creation of atmosphere for the planet. But in the new Total Recall comic series it turns out that all the problems of the Red Planet have not been solved. Mars in still in chaos, new enemies are invading the Red Planet, and there’s a mysterious stranger in their midst.

Having just freed the Mars colony from the grip of Cohaagen, Quaid and his girlfriend Melina are on the run once again as a new Red Planet adventure begins.

Dynamite announced the acquisition of the rights to produce a Total Recall comic last spring. While it’s taken a little longer than expected to get the comic book series going, the timing is actually fortuitous since a 3D feature film remake of Total Recall starring Colin Farrell will begin shooting in Toronto in May. The new version of Total Recall will hew much more closely to the Phillip K. Dick’s original story, “We Can Remember It For You,” than Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 film.
