It’s no easy matter to launch a new comic book series in today’s market, but Benaroya Publishing has a plan. The first issues of all three of its new titles, which are published by Image Comics, will have a cover price of $1. In addition to the “sample-me” pricing, for the May-debuting Red Spike #1, Benaroya has announced a contest that will allow a fan to win the original Mark Texeira cover art for the issue as well as a page of Texeira interior art for their favorite comic book shop. Red Spike #1 debuts on May 4th, and the first issue, like the first issues of Benaroya’s  Samurai’s Blood in June and Marksman in July, will have a cover price of just one dollar (subsequent issues of all three series will sell for $2.99).  

 

The contest will run between May 4th and May 27th.  Those who wish to enter simply have to purchase a copy of Red Spike #1 for a dollar and then have themselves photographed holding the comic in front of their favorite comic book shop. Then they simply have to post the photo to the Red Spike Facebook fan page. The winner will be chosen at random.
