On the eve of the New York Toy Fair DC Direct has unveiled some of its action figures and statues based on the controversial new Before Watchmen event as well as on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises summer blockbuster.  The Before Watchmen items that will be previewed at Toy Fair include prototypes of nine-inch resin statues of Before Watchmen Rorschach and Before Watchmen Comedian.  The Rorschach and Comedian statues are just the overture to a potential symphony of products based on the controversial Watchmen “prequels,” which have been condemned by Watchmen creator Alan Moore (see “Moore Says”).

 

DC Direct also announced an extensive line of collectibles based on Nolan’s third and final Batman film, which is at this point at least, pretty much of the “odds-on” favorite to become the highest grossing film of 2012. According to DC’s The Source blog, DC Direct’s TDKR line will include 6.38-inch PVC figures of Batman, Catwoman, and Bane, plus resin statues, and busts of the same trio of characters.  The Batman Icon Resin Statue will be 13-inches high, while the Bane Icon Resin Statue will come in just a tad shorter at 12.5-inches, while the crouching Catwoman Icon Resin Statue, which provides a pretty close likeness to actress Anne Hathaway, will be just 7-inches high.
