The Hollywood trades are reporting that the American Federation of Musicians picketed Marvel Studios’ Manhattan Beach facility handing out leaflets that asked "How many more billions do you have to make before Marvel will score their film music at home."  The AFM was upset about Marvel Studios scoring The Avengers in Europe rather than Hollywood, especially since the movie was in all other respects "union-made" and had received production incentive tax breaks designed to keep productions in the U.S.

Although Disney uses AFM members on its films, the studio allowed its notoriously frugal Marvel unit to score The Avengers on the cheap in Europe.  There are plenty of very talented musicians in cities like Prague, though they may not have the experience of the Hollywood studio cats who are truly world-class, they work for less.
