IDW Publishing has announced plans to collect the late 1970s and early 1980s Star Trek newspaper strips, beginning in October 2012. Star Trek: The Newspaper Strips, Vol. 1 will include ten complete story arcs, some written and illustrated by Thomas Warkentin, and subsequently by the team of author Sharman DiVono and artist Ron Harris. A contextual introduction to the series and its history will be provided by Rich Handley (Star Trek Communicator).
The daily strips will appear in black and white, the Sunday editions in full color. The 8.5” x 11” 264-page hardcover will retail for $49.99.
The Star Trek newspaper comics ran for four years between 1979 and 1983, and have been carefully restored by the Library of American Comics. IDW's continued partnership with the Library of American Comics has allowed them to publish archival collections of Dick Tracy, Blondie, Li'l Abner, and many other classic comics.
