Fearless Defenders #1, shipping in February, begins a new ongoing series in the Marvel NOW! initiative (see "Marvel NOW! The Answer to DC's 'New 52'").  Written by Cullen Bunn (Venom, Sixth Gun, The Fearless) with art by Will Sliney (MacGyver, Star Wars), Fearless Defenders is decidedly different than the classic Defenders team of the 1970s (and subsequent iterations) in that it features an all-female lineup.

 

The lineup in question is formed by Defenders veteran Valkyrie, with help from private investigator Misty Knight, an unlikely partner who clashes with the Asgardian demi-goddess in terms of both style and approach.  To lead the team (which is comprised of Earth recruits) in battling the ninjas, trolls, zombies, aliens, and other evildoers they’ll encounter, they must put aside their differences and work together.

 

As with various other Marvel NOW titles, each issue of Fearless Defenders will include augmented reality content (such as behind-the-scenes info and cover recaps) through the Marvel AR app, as well as retail incentives.
