Marvel is marking the 50th anniversary of its famous mutant superteam with X-Men: Battle of the Atom, an epic crossover event tied to the four ongoing X-Men titles. Announced at C2E2 (see "C2E2 2013 Report--Part 1"), this will be the first major X-Men crossover event since Second Coming, which was published in 2010.
In Battle of the Atom, the future X-Men are intent on sending the original X-Men back to the past. Currently, as seen in All-New X-Men, the original team is living at the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning.
The series begins in September with X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1, written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Frank Cho. It continues into the next month in Uncanny X-Men #12-13, All-New X-Men #16-17, Wolverine & The X-Men #36-37, and X-Men #5-6, wrapping up in October with X-Men: Battle of the Atom #2. The latter is written by Jason Aaron, who conceived the series, and drawn by a "mystery artist."
