Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim has confirmed reports that a new Flash television series will spin off from the CW’s Arrow. As ICv2 reported late last month (see "Flash Origin in 'Arrow'") The Flash (Barry Allen) will appear in three episodes during the upcoming second season of Arrow, and will then possibly get his own series during the 2014-2015 season. Now Arrow producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg confirm that the plan is for The Flash to get his own series after he is introduced on Arrow. Meanwhile at the same time that the notion of a Flash series was being bruited about at the Television Critics Association, the CW’s president made it clear that the network was still not satisfied with the oft-rewritten pilot script for a new Wonder Woman series.
So the Amazonian princess’ TV career is on hold, while Andrew Kreisberg handles the debut of The Flash, who will appear on three episodes of Arrow in the upcoming season. Interestingly, multiple sources indicate that The Flash will appear with superpowers and spandex costume intact on Arrow, in spite of the Oliver Queen-based series’ toned down attitude toward superheroics that mirrors the early Smallville mantra of “No tights, not flights.”
So will there be a culture clash on Arrow with the upbeat Barry Allen standing in stark contrast to the brooding Oliver Queen? Not according to Guggenheim who told Comic Book Resources that "The Flash will not change the tone of Arrow." Perhaps not, but it should be interesting to see who the CW chooses to portray Barry Allen and then to watch how The Flash and his alter ego interact with Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen.
