Three announcements from geek movie franchises came out on Tuesday, involving the new Jurassic Park, G.I. Joe, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Universal announced that the next Jurassic Park movie, the fourth, will be titled Jurassic World, and will premiere June 12, 2015, according to Variety. Colin Trevorrow will direct (see "'Jurassic Park' Has Director"). Production was delayed for more script work, including notes from exec producer Steven Spielberg, which is apparently now complete.
Evan Daugherty has been assigned the scriptwriting duties for the third G.I. Joe film (see "Third 'Joe' Planned"), according to Hollywood Reporter. Daugherty did a late rewrite on the Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, and also did a script for a TV adaptation of Vertigo series Midnight Mass (see "NBC Tries Again with Vertigo Comic 'Midnight, Mass.'").
Disney has removed the July 10, 2015 release date for Pirates of the Caribbean 5 from its schedule, and now lists the film’s release as "unset," according to Variety. The start of production has been delayed from Q1 2014 to fall of that year. Disney recently moved Ant-Man up to July 31, 2015 (see "'Ant-Man' Moved Up"), so the month will be generating at least some Disney cash.
