FremantleMedia North America (FMNA) has acquired the TV rights to Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods, according to Deadline.
FMNA plans to adapt the popular fantasy novel into a television drama series, which Gaiman will executive produce.
The last movement on a TV adaptation was in 2011, when Playtone planned to bring the series to HBO (see "'American Gods' Is Six Seasons").
The 2001 novel, which won the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker Award (see "American Gods Wins Hugo Award"), tells the story of Shadow Moon, an ex-con who ends up becoming bodyguard and traveling companion to the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday; and is drawn into the hidden world of old and new gods: a mish-mash of living avatars of anything and everything humanity worships and believes in around the world.
