Jackie Estrada, who has been involved in photography and comics for over 40 years, will release Comic Book People: Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s, a photography book featuring comic creators and other comic industry veterans from the 1970s and 1980s.
Currently close to its goal on Kickstarter, the book will be released to the trade in September. Estrada plans to solicit through Diamond, and will be using Atlas/Bookmasters for distribution to the book trade. Tentative MSRP will be $34.95.
The 160-page coffee table book will feature mostly black and white photography, with a 16-page color section.
Estrada is a longtime fixture in fandom, with professional photographic experience. She’s been an attendee at San Diego Comic-Con since 1970, and a volunteer since 1975. She has attended numerous other sci-fi and fantasy conventions and shows over the last 40 years, so the book will feature not only comic book creators and behind–the-scenes personalities, but also celebrities, sci-fi authors, animators, comic strip creators, and humor cartoonists.
Subjects will include Golden and Silver Age greats like Jerry Siegel, Jack Kirby, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Katz, Wally Wood, Stan Lee, Will Eisner and Joe Shuster; other top artists and writers including Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Jill Thompson, Moebius, Osamu Tezuka and Dave Gibbons; underground icons like Art Spiegelman, Denis Kitchen, Trina Robbins, and Rick Griffin; authors including Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Harlan Ellison, Clive Barker, and George R. R. Martin; and other creators including Charles Schulz, Bil Keane, Matt Groening, Chuck Jones, Mel Blanc and Bob Clampett.
