Another major character has been announced for Star Wars Rebels, as well as the star talent behind the voice. Katan the "cowboy Jedi" will be voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr., according to USA Today.
The character is described as a former Jedi Knight who was sent into hiding after the Emperor enacted "Order 66" to wipe out all the Jedi in Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith. In the 14 years since then, when Rebels takes place, Katan has kept his lightsaber locked away, becoming quite the gunslinger with a blaster, defending his crew on the spaceship The Ghost. Something in the plot will force him to pick up the lightsaber again and reawaken his dormant force powers as the series starts and he joins the fight against the Empire.
Prinze is not new to voice acting; having voiced the main character Pi in 2007’s direct-to-video Shark Bait/The Reef, occasional work on Robot Chicken, as well as two turns in Mass Effect video games as Lieutenant James Vega.
Star Wars Rebels producer Simon Kinberg also released information on another main character last month, the droid Chopper, as well as other details (see "'Star Wars Rebels' News").
