Hot on the heels of another record-breaking premiere (see "'Game of Thrones' Sets Viewer, Pirate Records"), HBO has taken the unsurprising step of renewing Game of Thrones for two more seasons, according to Hollywood Reporter. So plans for the show to run for seven seasons are much closer to fruition (see "'Game of Thrones' End Point Revealed"), providing the saga’s author ever finishes the source material.
The renewal makes Game of Thrones HBO’s longest running original scripted series currently on the air, after True Blood wraps up after seven seasons. Boardwalk Empire will also wrap up after airing its upcoming fifth and final season.
