In addition to the highly publicized debut of the Rocket Raccoon comic (see "Skottie Young Does 'Rocket Raccoon'"), Marvel is also prepping numerous July Guardians of the Galaxy releases including a Star Lord comic book series as well as a deluxe slipcased hardcover Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Art of the Movie in order to take advantage of the August 1st debut of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie directed by James Gunn.
In addition to the main Guardians of the Galaxy title written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Ed McGuinness, and the Rocket Raccoon comic, Marvel is prepping a new Legendary Star Lord comic that will be written by Sam Humphries and drawn by Paco Medina. Legendary Star Lord #1 is due in July along Bendis & McGuinness’ Guardians of the Galaxy #17, along with a one-shot Guardians of the Galaxy: Galaxy’s Most Wanted #1, which will be written by Will Pilgrim and feature art by Andrea Di Vito and will feature Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who are being voiced by two of the major "voice" stars in the Guardians movie, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
Marvel is also planning Guardians-themed variant covers for a number of July comic titles including Avengers, Ms. Marvel, All-New X-Men, Captain Marvel, and Fantastic Four.
Plus in addition to all the comics, there is the slipcased Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Art of the Movie, a deluxe, landscape-formatted, 304-page hardcover volume that contains exclusive concept art, behind-the-scenes photos, production stills, and in-depth interviews--all for the cover price of $49.99.
