Valiant Entertainment has announced a planned film adaptation of its Archer & Armstrong series, in partnership with the Sean Daniel Company, with a script by BenDavid Grabinski.
Valiant hinted at a big media project with Sean Daniel in their May interview with ICv2 (see "ICv2 Interview: Valiant Execs, Part 3"), and this appears to be confirmation. The Sean Daniel Company is the production group behind 2013’s Best Man Holiday, as well as the upcoming Ben-Hur and The Mummy films. Valiant and the Sean Daniel Company are co-funding the production, and have already funded a script by Grabinski (Cost of Living). The film will be produced by Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, and Valiant CEO/Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani.
"Archer & Armstrong is one of the greatest untapped franchises in comics, and BenDavid's script is delivering a vision for these characters that has made us all very, very excited," said Sean Daniel. "The movie is about the relationship between these two amazing characters, the comic clash between optimism and pessimism, and how family is the most important unifier."
Archer & Armstrong was co-created by former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter, Barry Windsor-Smith (Conan) and Bob Layton (Iron Man), and the series premiered in 1992. The series was re-launched by Valiant Entertainment, written by Fred Van Lente, with illustration by Clayton Henry, in August 2012 (see "'Archer & Armstrong' #1 in August"). Valiant is also publishing cross-over series The Delinquents this summer which pairs Archer & Armstrong with fellow Valiant duo Quantum and Woody (see "'Valiant First' Initiative Launches New Titles").
Archer & Armstrong is the third Valiant property in development for the big screen. Valiant is in the process of developing a Shadowman movie (see "JMS to Adapt Valiant's 'Shadowman'") and has sold rights to Sony to produce a Bloodshot film (see "Here Comes the 'Bloodshot' Movie").
