Steve Niles, creator of Dark Days, 30 Days Of Night and Criminal Macabre, is back with a new five-part mini-series, Wake the Dead, which will premier in September with art by Milx and a $3.99 cover price.  IDW, which published 30 Days of Night and Dark Days, describes Niles' latest effort as 'one of the most twisted pieces of horror storytelling ever.  Niles claims he is just taking his cue from Mary Shelley and describes the his latest creation this way, 'Basically Wake the Dead is a re-telling of all the Frankenstein stories I have ever read or watched.  I wanted to capture the essence of the original book as far as the youth of the characters and the price paid for playing God, but I think we've still managed to create an original and really freaky story.'

Steve Niles has quickly become one of the key figures in the resurgence of the horror comic book.  The comic book editions of 30 Days Of Night sold very well and the trade paperback collection was #1 in January and #2 in February on Diamond's list of best-selling graphic novels in the comic market.  Niles has also made a name for himself in Hollywood.  He is collaborating with Todd McFarlane on a new Spawn script and both 30 Days of Night (see '30 Days Of Night Optioned') and Criminal Macabre (published by Dark Horse, see 'MGM Picks Up Dark Horse Comic Series') have spurred major interest from Tinseltown studios.
