Warner Home Video has announced that The Matrix Reloaded DVD (and VHS) will premier on October 14, some three weeks before the opening of the final film in the futuristic science fiction series, The Matrix Revolutions. The two-disk DVD will carry a suggested retail price of $29.95. The DVD will contain a number of special features including a 'What is the Animatrix?' section that should serve as an excellent introduction to the anime anthology that provides lots of background on the Matrix universe (see 'The Animatrix Will Expand the Audience For Anime'). Other special features include lots of behind-the-scenes footage from The Matrix Reloaded including on-location interviews, a breakdown of the spectacular Freeway Chase, an introduction to the Matrix videogame, and even The Matrix Reloaded parody from the 2003 MTV Movie Awards.
The Matrix Reloaded amassed a total of over $700 million worldwide at the box office. If the performance of the first Matrix film on DVD is any guide, then The Matrix Reloaded should earn at least as much in its video release as it did at the box office.
