DC Comics, Warner Bros. Interactive and Electronic Arts have announced that they are joining forces to bring videogames based on the Warner Bros. film Batman Begins to multiple platforms and release the games simultaneously with the release of the new Batman film, which stars Christian Bale. The three companies plan to release Batman Begins videogames for the Playstation 2, the Playstation Portable handheld system, the X-Box, the Nintendo GameCube and the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.
Batman Begins, which brings a darker, edgier depiction of the Dark Knight to the silver screen, is set to open on June 17th, 2005. According to DC President and Publisher Paul Levitz, 'This will mark the first time that a Batman videogame has been developed to complement a film event, and we look forward to inviting players to step into the movie's reality and make the world of Batman their own.'
Videogames based on DC properties have not exactly set the world of electronic gaming on fire in the past, so Warner Bros. Interactive and Electronic Arts may not have an easy time attracting cutting edge gamers, although the visually distinctive Batman Begins should prove to be a strong lure.
