Margaret Weis Productions Ltd. has reached an agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to produce role-playing game products based on the Universal Pictures feature film Serenity, written and directed by Joss Whedon.  Whedon's Serenity film, which is based on his short-lived, cult favorite TV series Firefly, is set for a September 30th release.  The release date for the Serenity Role-playing Game is forthcoming.  Supplemental role-playing adventures will follow the initial release of a full color, hardcover Serenity RPG game book, which will feature still images from the film as well as original artwork.

Margaret Weis, the New York Times best-selling author of the Dragonlance novels, is designing the Serenity game along with a number of RPG veterans including James M. Ward, Tony Lee, Jamie Chambers and Andrew Peregrine.  The Serenity RPG will feature a new game system created especially for the line.

The Serenity RPG joins an increasing array of merchandise tied to the film,which now includes comics from Dark Horse (see 'Dark Horse to Publish 'Serenity'Comics'), action figures from Diamond Select Toys (see 'DST to Make 'Serenity' Action Figures'), trading cards from Inkworks (see 'Inkworks Has License for Joss Whedon Film'), and a souvenir magazine and screenplay from Titan Publications (see 'Titan Finds 'Serenity').
