In a long interview on the Blizzard Entertainment-focused blizzplanet Website, Cory Jones, Upper Deck Entertainment's Director of Brand and New Product Development, revealed details of UDE's World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, which will be unveiled at GenCon Indy this summer. ICv2 has already reported that veteran Star Wars artist Dave Dorman will be furnishing artwork for the UDE WOW release (see 'Dave Dorman Providing Art for Warcraft TCG'), but Jones named a number of other superb contributors to the series including Todd McFarlane, Greg Staples, Greg Hildebrandt, Rebecca Guay and R.K. Post.
Jones also revealed that Upper Deck's WOW TCG will be versatile -- players will be able to choose whether to play a 1-on-1 dueling game, a multiplayer game, or a game master vs. multiplayer game. According to Jones no fewer than twelve game developers are working on the WOW TCG and closely coordinating their efforts with Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft developers.
Jones promised a major organized play program for the World of Warcraft TCG including a tournament planned for Salt Lake City, numerous other tourneys, and a major effort at GenCon -- where, according to Jones: 'We (UDE) are going to own GenCon Indy...I think people will be blown away!'
As ICv2 reported last year, the Upper Deck WOW releases will contain special chase cards which will tie-in to the online game by including a scratch off code that will give you a cosmetic alteration to your MMORPG (massively multi-player online role-playing game) character (see 'Upper Deck Snags World of Warcraft TCG').
