Urban Vision Entertainment has announced that Vampire Hunter D:  Bloodlust will be released in the U.S. on DVD and VHS on February 12, 2002.  The movie is currently in theatrical release, where it is having a successful (for an anime feature) run in over fifty theaters beginning in September and continuing until shortly before the video release.  This is a new production, not to be confused with the 1985 Vampire Hunter D anime, which has been available in the U.S. since 1992.  Both are adaptations of novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi with character designs based on illustrations for the novels by Yoshitaka Amano.

VHD:  Bloodlust is a joint production of Urban Vision and Madhouse, and is directed and written by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, who also directed Wicked City, another film based on a Kikuchi novel.  Unlike most anime, the original voice actors for this film all performed in English; there is no Japanese version.

The story concerns 'D,' a half-vampire, half-human vampire hunter who has been hired to track down Meier Link, a notoriously powerful vampire who has abducted a human woman.  'D' is competing with the Markus Brothers, a family of vampire hunters.  This all takes place in a dark world 10,000 years in the future where vampires are commonplace.

DVD special features include a behind the scenes featurette, a storyboard to feature comparison, trailers and TV spots, image gallery, Dolby 5.1 sound, closed captioning, and more.  This movie was rated R by the MPAA for its theatrical release.  The DVD will have an MSRP of $29.95; the VHS will be at $19.95.
