Nickelodeon has announced that it will be including an exclusive comic book with each of the four DVD volumes that will make up the second season of its Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series.  The first volume in Season 2, Book 2: Earth, Volume 1 is now slated for a January 23rd release.  Nickelodeon will release a Season 2 box set at the end of 2007 that will include all four Season 2 DVDs, but has not announced whether the complete season box set will include the four exclusive comics.

The anime-influenced Avatar series has enjoyed solid ratings and has earned numerous awards including 2005 'Annie' awards for 'Best Television Production' and 'Best Writing for a Television Series.'  Tokyopop has published a very successful series of Avatar Cine-Manga (see 'Avatar Cine-Manga Tops 500K'), Upper Deck has released an Avatar CCG (see 'Avatar Introduces Quickstrike'), and Fisher Price/Mattel has produced a series of Avatar action figures and toys.
