Paizo Inc. announced the new Pathfinder Society Core Campaign introductory organized play mode for its popular Pathfinder RPG.  The new mode will be introduced in campaigns later this week, alongside the established Pathfinder Society Organized Play.

The new mode is intended to allow new players easier access to the game, and will use only the basic game established in the Pathfinder RPG: Core Rulebook and the free Campaign Traits documents provided for Pathfinder Society (Character Traits Web Enhancement, and Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play). This means player character options such as class, feats, equipment, skills, and magic items are limited in Core Campaign play, though standard Pathfinder Society campaign play does not have these limitations. Both campaign modes use the same scenarios, modules, and other resources.

Players may play each Pathfinder Society scenario twice, once with a Core Campaign character, and once with a standard Pathfinder Society character.  However, a character must belong to either the Core Campaign, or standard campaign, not both.  A Core Campaign character may transition to the standard campaign, but not the reverse.

Paizo hopes to encourage veteran players to play with new players and “show them the ropes” in the Core Campaign, while not limiting either player’s ability to participate in and receive credit for the more advanced regular Pathfinder Society mode of organized play.
