Rights to two classic science fiction works have been picked up by Hollywood in the last few days, with Brian Singer attached to a Heinlein property and Paramount acquiring The Stars My Destination.

Twentieth Century Fox has acquired the rights to the 1966 Robert Heinlein novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, and is planning a film with director Brian Singer (X-Men:  Days of Future Past), according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The property has been in development a couple of times previously, but a film based on the Hugo Award-winning book has yet to be made.  The story is about a lunar colony’s revolt against Earth.

Meanwhile, Paramount is in talks to acquire rights to the 1956 novel
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester for producer Mary Parent (Godzilla, Pacific Rim), according to Deadline.  The story is of a man who’s shipwrecked in space and is bypassed by a potential rescuer.  Like The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, The Stars My Destination has been in development multiple times in the past, but no film adaptation has been made.
