We round up the news on four geek TV shows.

Lazarus.  The Image title Lazarus, by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark, has been picked up by Legendary and producer Matt Tolmach (Amazing Spider-Man) for a TV series, according to Hollywood Reporter.  The title is Eisner-nominated (see “The 2014 Eisner Award Nominees”), and both of the first two volumes of the graphic novel made the Top 10 in comic stores for the months they were released  (see “Top 300 Graphic Novels—October 2013”) and (see “Top 300 Graphic Novels—July 2014”).

Rucka will write the pilot episode and exec produce.

X-Files.  X-Files is returning as a six episode event series on Fox, the network announced Tuesday.  Creator/executive producer Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are all returning for the event.  Production will begin this summer, with no air date set.  The original series premiered in1993 and ran for nine years.  “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said.  “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.

IDW has the comics and the board game tied to the original series.

Game of Thrones.  The new season of Game of Thrones (see “New ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Trailer”) will reveal story elements not yet published in any of the books, show runners Dan Weiss and David Benioff said at an event at Oxford Union, according to Polygon.  The potential spoilers are based on their consultations with author George R. R. Martin.

“I kind of wish that there were some things we didn’t have to spoil, but we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place,” Benioff said.  “The show must go on – and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Preacher.  Joseph Gilgun has been cast as Cassidy in the AMC Preacher series, according to Deadline.  He joins Ian Colletti as Arseface (see “Arseface Cast in ‘Preacher’ Pilot”) and Ruth Negga as Tulip.
