Ardden Entertainment is relaunching as Scout Comics and Entertainment, with a reboot of Solarman, published briefly by Marvel, as its first title. Ardden Entertainment was launched in 2008 by former Miramax/Dimension Films executive Brendan Deneen and Richard Emms. It published Flash Gordon, Casper the Friendly Ghost (see "Casper Campaign Stars This Fall"), and reboots of Atlas Comics titles, among others. Mike Grell was named Editor-in-Chief in 2010 (see "Grell Named EIC at Ardden").
The new company also includes Deneen and Emms, with Grell as EIC. Other Ardden staff will include writer/artist Mikael Bergkvist, writer/producer Carey Fox, writer/producer/CFO Anthonyh Vinci, Sabbath writer/creator Matthew Tomao, and the editorial/production team of Michael Sanchez, Karyn Giordano, and Jeremy Nunez.
First up from the new company will be Solarman, based on the two-issue comic series from Marvel (1989). The comic series was also the basis for an animated pilot, which was aired in 1992; the series was not picked up.
The Solarman reboot will feature story by Joseph Phillip Illidge (Static, Young Justice) and Brendan Deneen (Flash Gordon) and art by Josh Adams (Doctor Who). The first issue will feature a main cover by Paul Green and a b/w variant by Neal Adams. The lead character in the new version is Ben Tucker, a 20-year-old African American hacker who becomes infected with incredible power from a computer virus.
The second Scout title will be Sabretooth Dan, a series of all-ages OGNs created by John Bergstrom, a writer/animator for National Lampoon, Keeshan Animation, Klasky-Csupo, Saban, Turner, and others.
The third Scout title is Henchgirl, written and drawn by Kristen Gudsnuck, the story of a vaguely super-powered henchgirl to the leader of the Butterfly Gang.
The launch of Scout Comics is planned for Summer 2015.
