WonderCon is moving from Anaheim to Los Angeles for next year’s show, the Los Angeles Convention Center announced. The show will take place March 25-27, Easter weekend.
WonderCon has been held at the Anaheim Convention Center since 2012 (see “WonderCon Moving to Anaheim for 2012”), after chronic scheduling problems at the Moscone Center in San Francisco led the show to relocate to southern California.
WonderCon was founded in Oakland, moved to San Francisco under its new ownership by San Diego Comic-Con organizer Comic-Con International (see “Comic-Con International Takes Over WonderCon”), and then moved to Anaheim.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was happy with the move, and expressed a desire to have a continuing relationship with Comic-Con International, which looked at Los Angeles as an option for the core San Diego show the last time it was shopping for a venue. ““Los Angeles is honored to have been selected as the destination for WonderCon 2016,” he said. “We look forward to establishing a long-term partnership with Comic-Con International, the presenter, and helping them establish a home-base in L.A. We anticipate the show to be highly attended and to set the precedent for future successful Comic-Con events in L.A.”
WonderCon’s economic impact was estimated at $32 million over a three day period.
