Tokyopop will resume publishing manga in the U.S. in 2016, the company announced at Anime Expo, according to Anime News Network.  The company shut down its publishing operation in May of 2011 (see “Tokyopop Closing”), and the rights to most of its titles reverted to their creators (see “T-Pop Says Manga Rights Reverting”).

Publishing plans include manga from smaller publishers, art books and collector’s editions, according to the report.

A collaboration between Tokyopop and what is now Nerdist to produce an otaku site and email newsletter was announced in October of 2011 (see “Tokyopop Returns”).  There have also been a few primarily print-on-demand releases continuing Tokyopop series through a collaboration with Right Stuf.  But otherwise, the company has been quiet since its 2011 shutdown.
