Comic-Con News:  At the Warner Bros. panel in cavernous Hall H at the SDCC, the studio flashed a logo for a Green Lantern Corps movie with a 2020 release date.  The multi-hero Green Lantern Corps movie appears to be a replacement for the Green Lantern film announced previously by Warner Bros. for 2020 (see “Warners Announces 9 More DC Movies”).  The announcement was accompanied by an image of a large number of Green Lanterns in flight.

As Comic Book Resources points out, rumors about a Green Lantern movie have been swirling about lately, with actors like Chris Pine and Tyrese Gibson mentioned in conjunction with the project.  Certainly a Green Lantern Corps film would be able to accommodate a fairly large ensemble cast, and tap into the current vogue for multiple hero films created by The Avengers.  Warner Bros. went the solo Lantern route in 2011 with Ryan Reynolds and the result was perhaps (given the amount of effort and money expended) the biggest “flop” among all 21st Century superhero films to date.

It should be interesting to see how Warner Bros. will attempt to connect the Green Lantern Corps movie with the rest of the new DC cinematic universe it is building with Batman v Superman and the Justice League movies.
