Is the show playing fast and loose with The Flash’s comic book continuity? Well maybe not since in the final of Season 1 Barry Allen’s battle with the Reverse-Flash opened a “space hole” opening the way to the alternate universes of the DC multiverse. In fact the metal helmet that tore through the space/time fabric in that final episode was proof positive that Jay Garrick, the original Flash, would be making an appearance—and at the Warner Bros. TV panel it was revealed that actor Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex) will play Garrick in Season 2 of the CW series.
Warner Bros. also revealed that Shantel VanSanten (The Messengers) will join The Flash in Season 2 as Detective Patty Spivot, a fairly recent addition to The Flash comic books, who will be working with Barry’s mentor/father figure Detective Joe West. In addition Flash Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that Wally West (aka “Kid Flash”) will appear also appear in Season 2, so Professor Zoom should feel right at home.
Interestingly while more and more characters from the comics join The Flash, there is also some influence in the other direction with the new costume design for The Flash comic book character looking more and more like that worn by Grant Gustin in the TV series (see “Flash & Green Arrow Don New Duds”).
