New York Comic Con News: Appearing via video (see below) at the NYCC, film director James Cameron outlined a deal between his Lightstorm Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics that will see Dark Horse publish comic books based on Cameron’s Avatar that will take place in the world of Pandora chronicling events that took place before, after, and during the events portrayed in the original Avatar film.

Released in late 2009, Cameron’s first Avatar film has earned $2.8 billion more than any other film in history (as long as ticket prices are not indexed for inflation).  The director is currently filming three additional Avatar films, the first of which is due in theaters in 2017 with sequel following in 2018 and 2019, which should keep this property in the public mind over the next five years, as will a “World of Avatar” attraction currently under construction at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Dark Horse did not immediately announce any creative teams for the Avatar comic, but the publisher did offer up a striking bit of promo art.
