Marvel Comics will release Mark Millar’s latest series Empress under its Icon imprint in Spring 2016.

According to THR, the series will be written by Millar, with art by Stuart Immonen (Superman, The New Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man).  Millar plans the series to be three arcs, told in six issue installments, tentatively launching in April.

The intergalactic space opera follows Emporia, the wife of a galactic dictator, who decides to take her three children and flee her husband with the aid of her bodyguard. They travel to her home planet, Earth. The twist is this all takes place 65 million years ago.

There was no word on if this title, like many of Millar’s series, will receive a Hollywood adaptation.  Millar’s Chrononauts  (see “Universal Nabs 'Chrononauts'”), Starlight  (see “Movie Deal for Millar's 'Starlight'”),  and Nemesis (see “Fox Acquires Millar & McNiven's 'Nemesis'”) are currently in development at various studios; and his latest series, Huck, was recently optioned (see “Mark Millar's 'Huck' to Hit Big Screen”).
