{IMAGE_2}Producer/Director Luc Besson has announced via Instagram that pop singer Rihanna has joined the cast of the Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets space opera.

Based on the Valerian bande dessinee series by Pierre Christian and Jean-Claude Mezieres, the adaptation will star Dane DeHaan as Valerian, with Cara Delevingne as his partner Laureline (see “ Luc Besson to Helm 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets'”). Rhianna’s role was not revealed, but Benson said “she has a big part!” Clive Owen has also been cast as the Commander of the space/time operative team.

Rihanna ‘s acting credits include the board game based-Battleship, a voice role in the animated film Home, and numerous high-concept music videos.
