Rio Grande Games has announced the new Salsa expansion for the Kennerspiel des Jahres-nominated economic board game Concordia.  Release is planned for November 15.

"Salsa" is the Latin word for "salted," and salt is a new commodity that is added to this expansion. Designed by Mac Gerdts (Imperial, Antike, Navegador), the expansion adds two new maps (Byzantium and Hispania), a sixth commodity (salt), new city tokens, and 27 forum cards for new strategies to the hand management/deck building competitive economic board game set during the glory days of the Roman Empire. All the cards are different, so players can explore new strategic challenges during the game. Some have permanent effects, others can be returned to the stack after using them.  The game works with both the base game and the Britannia expansion.  As an expansion, it does require a copy of the base game to play (see “'Concordia' Due Later This Month From Rio Grande”).

The game is for 2 - 5 players, ages 13 and up, and plays in 90-120 minutes.  MSRP is $34.95.

The game was nominated for the Kennerspiel  (Connoisseur-Enthusiast Game of the Year) in 2014, but lost to Istanbul (see “ 2014 'Spiel des Jahres' Nominations”).
