Peter Prinz’ game of archaeology, Thebes, was produced by Queen Games in Germany and will be released in the U.S. in December. Players travel around Europe collecting the resources needed to conduct digs in Greece, Egypt, and the Near East. The game uses time as the main resource, with each action costing one to ten weeks from the three year limit.Thebes includes 1 game board, 4 archeologists, 4 time markers, 100 game cards, 4 time wheels, 155 tokens, and 5 cloth bags. The game is for 2 - 4 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in an hour. MSRP is $49.99.
Also releasing in December is Heikki Harju’s M.U.L.E., based on the classic computer game of the same name from 1983. Players use their mechanical “M.U.L.E.s” to claim territory on an alien world and harvest the resources needed for the colony, while manipulating the exchange markets to maximize profits. M.U.L.E. includes 1 game board, 4 player boards, 67 game cards, 213 wooden resource markers, and 164 tiles. The game is for 3 - 4 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about half an hour per player. MSRP is $69.99.In January, Asmodee will bring expansions for two of its popular games to the U.S.
A Prophecy of Dragons will be the second expansion for T.I.M.E. Stories. This new mission for the T.I.M.E. agents features an alternate Middle Ages where magic is real, and uses a storytelling style new to the T.I.M.E. Stories system. This expansion requires the base game, and is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 12 and up. MSRP is $29.99.T.I.M.E. Stories was part of a bundle of highly anticipated games Asmodee brought to the U.S. earlier this year (see “Asmodee’s Dragon Game ‘Ryu’”). The first T.I.M.E. Stories expansion, titled The Marcy Case, is already available.
Nations: Dynasties expands Rustan & Nina Hakansson and Einar & Robert Rosen’s game of civilization building by adding a dozen new nations to play, Dynasties to influence, new Turmoil cards representing unforeseen challenges, and Natural Wonders to explore.Dynasties includes 6 double-sided player boards, 34 Dynasty cards, 6 Turmoil cards, and 43 Progress cards. The first expansion for Nations, it requires the base game to play and is intended for 1 to 5 players, ages 14 and up. MSRP is $29.99.
