Captain Action Enterprises, LLC has announced a partnership with Medicom Toy Corporation to release a long-lost Ultraman outfit for the 12" Captain Action figure first advertised 50 years ago.

The Ultraman uniform was originally planned as part of a line of superhero costume sets to be released with the 12” Captain Action figure in Japan. The only image of the outfit was shown in Shonen magazine in the 1960s, and was planned to be a contest prize for readers.

Captain Action Enterprises now plans to release the uniform as part of the 50th Anniversary of Captain Action. The company is working with Medicom Toy to create retro-style packaging similar to that of the original 1960s releases. Medicom’s Japanese release of the costume is currently planned for June.

ICv2 asked Captain Action Enterprises’ Ed Catto to explain how the licensing deal came about. “It's really interesting and worked so well for us.  Medicom licenses the character for 1/6 scale toys, and one senior fella at Medicom is a big Captain Action fan,” said Catto via email, citing a relationship built on the companies’ previous dealings for the Be@Rbrick series which featured Captain Action and Dr.Evil. “So he worked with all parties so that Medicom could create this 1/6th scale costume for Captain Action.”

“After almost fifty years, we’re thrilled to be making this long-lost costume set available,” said Captain Action Enterprises’ Joe Ahearn. “For Captain Action fans, it’s not quite the Holy Grail, but it’s pretty close!”
