Dwayne McDuffie
The Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics Selection committee has announced the five finalists for the 2nd Annual award that honors the contributions made by McDuffie, the co-founder of Milestone Media and creator (or co-creator) of more than a dozen comic book series including Icon, Static, Deathlok II, Hardware, and Damage Control.  The first Dwayne McDuffie Award went to Nilah Magruder for M.F.K. (see “First Dwayne McDuffie Award Goes to M.F.K. Webcomic”).

  • The finalists for the 2016 Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics are:
  • Andre the Giant Closer to Heaven by Brandon Easton (writer), and Denis Medri (artist) (IDW).
  • Fresh Romance, edited by Janelle Asselin (Rosy Press).
  • Moon Girl and the Devil Dinosaur by Brandon Montclare and Amy Reeder (writers), and Natacha Bustos (artist) (Marvel)
  • Ms. Marvel by Willow Wilson (writer), and Adrian Alphona (artist) (Marvel).
  • Zana by Jean Barker (writer), and Joey Granger (artist) (Emet Comics).

The Selection Committee for the Dwayne McDuffie Diversity in Comics Awards includes writer Neo Edmund, Nickelodeon Comics editor Joan Hilty, former Milestone editor Joseph Illidge, Editor of ‘The Beat’ Heidi McDonald, former managing editor of Milestone Media Matt Wayne, and comic book retailer William J. Watkins.
