New York City’s JHU Comic Books had a surprise visitor on Monday afternoon, actor Benedict Cumberbatch in full Doctor Strange costume.

The actor had been shooting scenes for Doctor Strange all day on the block of 32nd street and 5th Avenue in front of the store. According to the manager on duty, Rene Rosa, members of the movie crew had been coming in on breaks and buying merchandise, saving what would have been a slow day with the block mostly closed to pedestrian traffic for filming. One of the producers joked that maybe Cumberbatch would stop in after the shoot, but no one expected him to actually do so, a JHU employee told ICv2 on Tuesday.

The actor did stop in for a few minutes with Scott Derrickson, the film’s director, and posed for pictures with the source material and with the store manager. Derrickson then reportedly bought some comics, though Cumberbatch did not.
