Comic-Con News: Starz has released the first trailer for its adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, which will debut on the cable network in 2017. The trailer introduces Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), who is released from prison, finds out his wife is dead, and then meets the mysterious Wednesday (Ian McShane), who enlists him what promises to be a strange and lengthy crusade populated by mysterious and strangely fascinating characters in a faithful adaptation of Gaiman’s Hugo Award-winning novel. Judging from the trailer and from the set photos that have been released so far (see “First Look at Starz’ American Gods”), this will be a faithful adaptation of Gaiman’s Hugo Award-winning novel.
Produced by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, Starz is betting that American Gods, with its battle between the old Gods and the new technology will be one of 2017’s “water-cooler” series, and will generate enough interest to last for six seasons (see “American Gods Is Six Seasons”).
