At the Essen Game Fair this October, Days of Wonder will release Small World:  River World, a new expansion for its Small World board game.  The game will be available in the U.S. starting in November.

The River World expansion offers four new maps for the kingdoms of Small World to fight over, printed on two double-sided game boards.  The new maps feature extensive river terrain and new river-related elements, including harbors and shipyards.  The expansion also adds random events, drawn every turn, which range from pirate attacks to devastating storms and river-freezing winters.  To give players an edge when dealing with these events, the new Temple of the Seer location allows a glimpse of the future.

River World was designed by Philippe Keyaerts, the creator of Small World.  The expansion includes 2 double-sided game boards, 11 event markers, 1 Caravel token, and 12 pirate ship tokens.  It requires the base game in order to play.  It can be used in games with 2 to 5 players, and is recommended for ages 8 and up.  MSRP is $24.99.

Small World continues to be a big hit for Days of Wonder, raking # 9 on ICv2’s top seller list this spring (see “Top 10 Hobby Channel Board Games--Spring 2016”).
