BBC America and BBC Worldwide have commissioned a new animated version of the classic Doctor Who adventure The Power of the Daleks.

The new adventure will be based on the program’s original audio recording, film clips, and surviving photographs. The master negatives of the show were destroyed in 1974 when the BBC purged the archive.

The first episode will be available to download on November 5 from the BBC Store, with remaining episodes released over the following five days. It will premiere on Saturday November 12 on BBC America.

The six-part story premiered in 1966 and was the debut of the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton. This was the Time Lord’s first “renewal,” and his first duty was to do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan aided by his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze).

The new animated adventure is produced and directed by Charles Norton, with designs from comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon.

The Power of the Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted and we’re all very honored to be a part of such an exciting project,” said Norton. “Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, The Power of the Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television and a superb example of the black and white era at its finest.”
