Retailers that sign up for the program before December 21 will each receive a complete demo kit that comes with four ship models from Sails of Glory Series One, a set of counters for playing the game, and a pdf with a set of quickstart rules and a short scenario designed for new players. The demo program has no set schedule of events, allowing retailers to plan demos and in-store events at the time of their choosing.
Ares also just released four new ship kits for the game:64-gun French Artesien, a series of 5 ships built to replace loses in the Seven Years’ War. MSRP $21.90.
50-gun Portland Class, British ships of the “fourth class” with a crew of 350. MSRP $21.90.
112-gun Meregildos Class, large three deck Spanish ships of the line. MSRP $23.90.
74-gun Nepomuceno/Bahama Class, Spanish warships often used in the Caribbean. MSRP $21.90.
Each kit comes with a single pre-painted 1/1000 scale sailing ship mounted on a Sails of Glory game base, 1 double-sided ship log, 1 double-sided ship card, and a deck of maneuver cards for use with that ship. The kits are not stand-alone games, and require the Sails of Glory starter set to play (MSRP $89.90).
Based on Ares’ very successful Wings of Glory, Sails of Glory was created by Andrea Angiolino (Isla Dorada, Ulysses)and Andrea Mainini (Origin, Maya) and originally released in 2013 (see “Ares Plans ‘Sails of Glory’”). The game and ship models were both honored with “Best of” awards at the 2015 Origins Game Fair (see “2015 Origins Award Winners”).
