Jim Carrey is joining the cast of Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, the Jeff Wadlow-helmed sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s cult hit film based on the Marvel Icon series by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. Carrey will play Colonel Stars, an ex-mafia member turned masked vigilante, who helps turn the group of misfits into a force that can take on the Red Mist and his cohorts.
Carrey, who was one of the leading screen comedians of the 1990s (Ace Ventura), has branched out to include drama (The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) during the past decade. As Deadline reports, Carrey is a huge fan of the original Kick-Ass movie who even appeared in the Kick-Ass costume to sing a duet with a Superman-clad Conan O’Brien.
The cast of Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall also includes holdovers Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and newcomers Donald Faison and John Leguizamo. Kick-Ass 2 is slated to debut next summer on June 28th, 2013.
