Written by Mark Waid (Daredevil) and James Robinson (Starman), Spider-Man: Family Business will be the second work in Marvel’s all-new original graphic novel line (see "Ellis & McKone Assemble!"), the company has announced. Releasing April 2, 2014 and debuting in a "high-end, oversized format," the book will feature fully painted interior and cover art by Gabriele Dell’Otto (Secret War).
According to Marvel, Spider-Man: Family Business will be a worldwide release, appearing simultaneously in stores in North America, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Brazil, Finland, and Turkey (in the primary languages spoken in those countries).
Kingpin, who Waid says is being redefined in the story, is organizing a global crime syndicate. Meanwhile, someone is after Spider-Man, and the only one who can save him is a mystery woman claiming to be Peter Parker’s sister. Or, will she turn out to be another of his many foes?
A code for a digital edition of the book, which includes augmented reality in the form of cover recaps, behind-the-scenes info, and the like, will be free with each copy of Spider-Man: Family Business. The digital copy is redeemable through the Marvel Digital Comics app for smart phones and tablets and online in the Marvel Digital Comics Shop.
