Lionsgate’s new Power Rangers movie (see "Lionsgate to Make New 'Power Rangers'") will be written by X-Men: First Class scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lionsgate is partnering with Saban Brands to develop a new live action feature for the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers property. The companies also announced Robert Orci, who recently split with writing partner Alex Kurtzman (with whom he’s done work on The Amazing Spider-Man, Transformers, and Star Trek movies), as executive producer. Orci was recently in the news as the potential new director for Star Trek 3 with the exit of JJ Abrams (see "'Star Trek 3' Writer May Direct"). Orci will also help develop the Power Rangers’ story with Miller and Stentz.
Miller and Stentz were named last year as writing team on the planned Terminator TV series that will follow the film reboot (see "New 'Terminator' TV Series"). The pair also worked with Orci previously on the sci-fi TV show Fringe.
In the comics world, Papercutz recently launched a graphic novel series tied to the classic Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series (see "Papercutz Plans Launches, Support").
