The romance between Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique character and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto will be at the heart of Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse movie, which starts shooting in Montreal in April for a May 27, 2016 debut under the direction of veteran X-Men helmer Bryan Singer (see "Bryan Singer to Direct 'X-Men Apocalypse'"). Fox is wisely planning to make full use of Lawrence’s burgeoning star power, much of which is based on the enormous popularity of The Hunger Games franchise, in which the actress plays the central role of Katnis Everdeen.
The other contributing factor that has made Lawrence the hottest young female star in Hollywood is the success of her performances in two films directed by David O. Russell, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, which earned her an Oscar and a supporting actress nomination respectively. Naturally Lawrence is eager to work with Russell again and is on board for Russell’s next project Joy, which is slated to start shooting in Boston in February.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence’s status as Hollywood’s most in-demand actress has led to the renegotiation of her deals with both Fox for X-Men: Apocalypse and with Russell’s production company for Joy. If all goes according to current plans, she will star in both the big summer of 2016 comic book movie blockbuster, and in the Christmas Day, 2015 releasing Joy, which would presumably give the actress a potential shot at another Oscar in March of 2016.
Meanwhile, Daniel Bruhl, who received multiple award nominations for his work in Ron Howard’s Rush and also had a key role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War. Rumors about what role Bruhl will play continue to swirl around the Net with speculation centering on Baron Zemo, who will be one of the lesser villains in Captain America: Civil War (Crossbones is considered the frontrunner to emerge as the main villain in Civil War), but who will take center stage in the Doctor Strange movie.
