James Wan has signed to direct two geek features, Aquaman for Warner Bros. and Robotech for Sony, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Wan is just off a big hit with Furious 7, and also directed horror hit Saw.

It looks like Warners has decided which of the two Aquaman scripts they were developing (see "Warner Bros. Doubles Down on 'Aquaman' Movie") will get the go-ahead, as Wan will oversee a script for Aquaman by Kurt Johnstad (300, 300:  Rise of an Empire), according to the report.  Jason Momoa, who will be introduced as Aquaman in Batman v. Superman (see "Jason Momoa Confirmed as Aquaman") will star.

No date has been set, but based on the open dates on the calendar of its movies, Aquaman will probably be released in 2018.

Wan’s signing to direct Robotech came relatively quickly after new producers came on board and the production moved to Sony (see "'Robotech' Feature Moves to Sony"), but given Wan’s now crowded schedule (he will also direct The Conjuring 2: The Endfield Experiment this fall), it’s unclear if the producers’ desire to move ahead quickly can be realized.
