Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, the new producers that took over the rights to a live action Robotech feature last month are taking it to Sony, which is planning a global film franchise based on the classic anime property, according to Variety.
The project was in development at Warners since 2007 (see “Robotech Live Action”); Nunnari and Canton acquired the rights when they became available (see “New Producers, Writer for Live Action ‘Robotech’”),.
The good news is that Sony is hoping to move the film into production quickly, with the script that Nunnari and Canton had commissioned from Michael Gordon.
The biggest merch line in the U.S. is Palladium’s Robotech RPG Tactics miniature game, which reached the trade last fall (see "'Robotech RPG Tactics' Update").
